Figures published this week showed that there have been more covid-19 deaths in care homes than in hospitals.

However, some care staff have been nervous about taking a test in case it plunges them into poverty.

Many of the workers are employed by private companies and would only be entitled to £95 a week statutory sick pay if they fell ill.
